Backflow Prevention

Unit Standard: 23847 and 23848

There are a number of Backflow training courses available which can lead to an IQP (Independently Qualified Persons) certification.

NZWETA (NZ Water & Environment Training Academy) offers two 2-day training courses which cover unit standards 23848 (Modules 1 & 2 on their webpage) and 23847 (Module 3 on their webpage). They have courses scheduled throughout the country.

Unitec also offers Backflow training at various locations throughout the country. Their four day Backflow Testers Cross-connection course also incorporates the unit standards 23848 and 23847 which are the qualifications required to apply for IQP to your Regional Council. Their four day course is $955.35.

On completion of these two unit standards 23848 (Describe suitability, installation, and testing of water supply backflow prevention devices, and fault identification) and 23847 (Prepare to test, and inspect and test, water supply backflow prevention devices) you will be able to apply to your local Regional Council for IQP Certification which will need to be renewed every three years. These unit standards are also pre-requisites for the Backflow Survey qualification (unit standard 2150).
